*I recently completed a 30 day social media detox and this was one of the posts I wrote a long the way.

It was a beautiful Autumn day and a potential suitor asked to meet me for after work drinks, after which…

Of course, one G&T turned into two… three. It was a Tuesday, but the weather was more like a Friday!

One of the things I noticed about not being on social media was how I handled sitting by myself. When my date went to the bathroom or went to order drinks, I was forced to look around, which in turn led to some interesting conversations with people in my near vicinity.

Usually I’d always take out my phone and go on to Instagram, which is like my security blanket. It made me reflect on why that’s my go-to. I think most of us feel uncomfortable with doing nothing in a social setting or having to potentially make eye contact with strangers (especially the mindless ones), so we look at our phones instead. At least, that’s my motivation for scrolling Instagram when I’m sitting by myself out in the big wide world.

It felt great to be out and about and connect with my environment. Now, go! Put away your phone! Live!
